Our Sweet Juliet

I know. I just can’t stop singing her praises! After pouring my first cup of coffee yesterday, I got dressed (long pants, tshirt, sunhat and Off slathered all over my body) and went down to find our sweet Juliets. It was another drying day for these beauties.  I had no idea that I would end [...]

Cool Blackberry Pops

It sure has been hot here!
I remember as a kid, we just loved to hear that guy peddling the bicycle with a refrigerated case on the front yelling, “Popsicle Man.” I’d run inside and ask mom for a few cents for my favorite treat. By the time I got back to the street, the popsicle [...]

I’ve been busy drying tomatoes and putting up our blackberries and blueberries. Before I write more about that, Kristina had asked what the tomatoes look like when they are dried. I’ve never looked at them side by side, and thought it would be neat to see how they compare.
Here is our favorite to dry – [...]

Ode To Our Elm

We got the news today, oh boy – our elm tree is dying of Dutch Elm Disease. As Master Gardeners we thought that was the case, but wanted to get some expert opinions. We met with two different arborists this week and they both came to the same conclusion – she needs to come down. [...]

Blackberry Jello Recipe

So here is my recipe.

After pushing the juice through [...]

Rainy Day Activities

Well, it finally rained! I’ve never wanted rain so badly in my whole life (I may be exaggerating a bit). Dave and I harvested at the church garden yesterday morning instead of today. We thought it might be a tad less soupy then it would be today if we ended up with more rain.
Harvesting in [...]

It’s Drying Time Again

Well, it’s that time of the year. The tomatoes are really starting to ripen so I’ve got the dehydrator going. For information on our dehydrator see this post. As I mentioned there, I sure wish I would have bought the larger tray version instead of just five trays. It’s fine for right now, but it [...]

Lavender Bud Denuding

Today I harvested the rest of the Provence and the second Grosso plant. Two more Grosso plants and I will be done with this year’s lavender harvest. I love the smell of lavender in the house. As I was getting the Provence ready to hang to try, Dave walked into the kitchen. “Sure smells good [...]

Fresh Lavender Wreath

It’s been real smelly around here lately. I’ve been harvesting lavender. I harvested Dilly Dilly in Dave’s Butterfly Garden and couldn’t stop singing “Lavender blue dilly dilly, Lavender green dilly, dilly …” Dave hadn’t heard of the song sung by many, but the one I remember was by Burl Ives. If you’ve never heard it [...]
