Katherine Sands: Layered Fabric Design

I interviewed Fiber artist and quilter Katherine Sands from Carmi, Illinois for this week’s Telling Your Story column in The Evansville Courier and Press. Here is the link to her story.

This was one of the harder interviews to write. How do I describe all of her beautiful layered fabric design?

Here she is with “But Words Will Never Hurt Me” quilt – just one in this series of quilts. I just love all of the layers and the designs in this quilt.

Katherine also makes and sells beautiful fabric and items made with that fabric in her etsy shop.

Here are a couple items I bought for Christmas presents. I ended up saving one of them for me! They are made from her paint cloths.

And here is some of her painted material.

She sure has inspired me with her beautiful work. You can check out more of Katherine’s work on her blog HERE.

Oh, she gave me this! It’s a needle case made with paper cloth. Too cute!

One of the book Katherine recommends to get started in this layered fabric design is Create Your Own Hand-Printed Cloth by Rayna Gillman. I just received it in the mail yesterday and it looks like so much fun!

Love the article! Thanks so much, Lynda. Class went well yesterday but down to 6 people showing up. It was a great weather day and we worked outside in the after noon with bleach. We had fun! Missed ya’… ;=)

    Kathy,
So glad you liked the article. I bet you did have fun yesterday. I ended up spending time cleaning up the asparagus patch and cutting down the grasses. So much to do!

Oh, these fabrics are just soo beautiful! I think I will need to do some more fabric dying this summer, seeing all of your beautifully dyed fabrics all winter and now these here :)
