Trash to Treasure

This week’s column in The Evansville Courier and Press is about Jane Vickers and her jewelry from what most of us call trash. I’ve known Jane for many years and remember attending meetings where she’d be sitting and keeping her hands busy by making her jewelry. I was always amazed that she could listen and create at the same time. She told me in this interview that it helps her focus if her hands are busy! Check out my column about her here. Unfortunately, the copy editor cut a few words from the article making one of my sentences unclear. See my change below.

Jane Vickers with one of her necklaces

Jane is holding a necklace which includes pearls and tire retread among other things. Here are some necklaces from her Lost and Found collection. You can see her collection and even buy some of her pieces HERE.

The sentence should read “Journals can be created from cereal or cookie boxes, tote bags from pet food sacks, and ornaments from soda cans.”

I’ve worked some with “trash.” I’ve been creating a piece of jewelry I wanted to include in this post, but I haven’t quite finished it yet.  However, below is a tin container that I painted with alcohol inks. It’s a great home for those hearts I bought on ebay years ago for some project!

To celebrate the holiday today, we’re going to invite a couple friends over for our homegrown dinner tonight. Check out my hubby’s post for the menu. Have a safe and happy weekend (and holiday for my USA readers) everyone!

I could really picture some of that “trash” art as garden trinkets!

Any way I could convince you to show-n-tell that can you decorated with the alcohol paint? It’s a great looking item.

Can’t wait to see your other piece you can’t yet show us. I love the shape of hearts and those you have a quite a collection!

Lynn, Maybe I’ll do a little tutorial on using alcohol ink. It was fun and so easy. Yep, they were real cheap on Ebay several years ago and not sure why I bought them and did use them in a couple of projects.
